Annotation

Lulu James self- released her debut ‘Rope Mirage’ EP in spring this year. Here, ‘Be Safe’ her first single proper gets an impressive rework from Hostage & Kidnap Kid and will be released by Black Butter on November 19.

Raised on Whitney, India Irie, and Aretha - raved on Fly Lo, Mount Kimbie, Jamie XX, the music Lulu wanted to make, like most things in her life, was never going to be simple – hooking up with Domzilla (co writer/producer) the early fruits of her vision took shape and the 21st Century soul of her debut release which spread across the internet to immediate acclaim. Born at the foot of Kilimanjaro, raised on the mouth of the River Tyne it was apparent from an early age that life was never going to be normal for Lulu James. At 7 years old, Lulu was strolling along a beach in Tanzania the next she found herself in the more inclement confines of South Shields in the North East of England. Seismic change was to prove to be the only constant in life and six weeks after touching down in the UK and speaking only Swahili she was sent to the local comprehensive school. The need to learn fast was a skill that soon became second nature to Lulu as she immersed herself in a new way of life.
